We are at registration stage. The mission is specific, the gap is real, and we are looking for people who have the expertise — and the belief — to help us do this properly.
You won't be joining an established board. You'll be helping build one.
The Reboot Project is a grassroots charity in formation. We have three trustees. We are working toward full Charity Commission registration as a CIO and we need people around the table who bring the right mix of skills, rigour, and genuine belief in what we are building.
This is not a ceremonial role. It is an active one — particularly at this stage, when decisions made now will shape the organisation for years.
We are not looking for a full complement of specialists who cover every base. We are looking for the right people. One area of genuine expertise, and a willingness to engage seriously with the mission, is enough.
We are operating under our working name while the CIO registration is completed. The Reboot Bar pilot is underway. The school engagement strand is in early development. The retreats model is being built.
The immediate board priorities are governance and financial oversight — getting the structures right so the funding conversations can begin in earnest. Beyond that, we are building the full trustee team over the next twelve months.
Express interest →You do not need all of these. One area of genuine expertise or lived experience is enough to make a conversation worthwhile.
Charity finance, management accounts, financial controls, or audit experience. We need someone who can read the numbers and hold us to account on them — particularly as we move into grant-funded activity.
Charity law, employment, contracts, or constitutional governance. Early-stage charities make structural decisions that follow them for years. We want someone who helps us do this right the first time.
Clinical, commissioning, or policy experience in mental health, addiction, or neurology. Particularly valuable as we develop our R&D strand and begin conversations with statutory partners.
Independent or state school leadership, PSHE, safeguarding, or pastoral experience. Our school engagement strand is peer-led and culturally specific — we want trustees who understand that world from the inside.
Trust and foundation fundraising, statutory commissioning, or major donor experience. We have strong thematic alignment with several tier-one funders. We need someone who knows how to make that count.
Brain injury, trauma, addiction recovery, or time in the mental health system. This is not a diversity checkbox. Lived experience is the methodology. Trustees who carry it shape the organisation from a position no credentials can replicate.
At registration stage, trustees are not rubber-stamping a running operation. They are helping to build the governance structure, stress-test the model, and make foundational decisions about how the organisation is run.
We are building something that works around the people involved, not the other way around.
Time commitment is genuinely flexible and negotiated individually. If you have two hours a month and strong financial expertise, that is more useful to us right now than twelve hours a month of general goodwill.
We ask for engagement, honesty, and the willingness to say when something isn't right. The founder has navigated complex systems his whole life. He does not need trustees who agree with everything — he needs trustees who will push back when it matters.
Beyond any specific expertise, these are the things that matter across the board.
The Reboot Project works across two populations that mainstream services have consistently failed to reach — and that no other organisation is currently working across from the same position.
The first: people who came of age in the nineties underground scene, still functioning, still going, but carrying thirty years of accumulated neurological and psychological damage with no language for what is actually wrong.
The second: young people in private and independent schools, where signalling failure is hidden by resource and managed privately until the consequences become impossible to ignore.
The founder has standing in both worlds. The board needs to be capable of holding that breadth — and of understanding why it matters that we work across both ends of the system rather than choosing a lane.
Read the full mission →You won't inherit someone else's structure. You'll be in the room when the foundational decisions are made — about governance, about strategy, about what this organisation actually becomes. That is rare.
The gap in provision is real, documented, and spans two populations that no other organisation is working across from the same position of credibility. This is not another recovery charity doing the same thing with a different logo.
Two charities, a community café, a newsletter reaching 20,000 readers, a digital inclusion consultancy. Adam Palk has built things for communities that existing systems failed to reach. He knows how this works — and where it goes wrong.
No formal application process. Send a brief note about yourself and why this resonates. We'll take it from there.
If the timing isn't right or the fit isn't there, we'll say so honestly. If it is, we'll have a proper conversation about what involvement would actually look like for you.
One area of genuine expertise and genuine belief in what we're doing is enough.

The map was always there. We just needed the right language to read it.
